11:11 or 1:11

Make a wish "they" use to tell me every time you see 11:11a.m or 11:11p.m.  Why?  I don't know but I have been doing it for years!

Every time you look at a clock does it coincidentally show 11:11 a.m. or p.m. or 1:11? I know this happens to me all the time, and has been happening to me for as long as I can remember. And each and every time I make a wish.  Don't know if it helps but I am so superstitious now I just have to.

I know it's weird, but it happens to a lot of us. Recently, I read an article that gives this quirky coincidence a unique explanation.

Here is the article on numerology and planetary shift.  Enjoy (if you believe in this sort of thing!)

11:11 – Are These The Numbers For The Planetary Shift?

How many of you have had the 11:11 experience: Hands up. Ah, I’m seeing a sea of hands waving out there.

In case you have not, let me tell you of my own 11:11 initiations.  Several years ago, I had heard nothing of planetary awakening of consciousness or The Shift.

For weeks, and eventually months, I found myself just happening to glance at the clock at 11:11 a.m. or p.m. Also 1:11. I’m not a clock-watcher, so this struck me as an odd coincidence. Time rolled on and it began happening with increasing frequency. Finally, it had my full attention. What the heck was going on? I decided to look to numerology (about which I knew nada), and the meaning of 1, or 11 was interesting, but nothing to shout about.

Then it occurred to me to Google 11:11. Go ahead and try it, if you haven’t already. Pretty impressive. Turns out I was hardly alone in this experience. For example: here’s what Uri Geller has to say:

“I started experiencing this rather bizarre occurrence when I was forty years old, at first I thought they were coincidences, I would stand with my back to a digital clock and something made me turn around, and I would notice that the time would be 11:11. These incidents intensified I would be checked into hotel rooms on floor 11 room 1111. I started noticing these digits on computers, microwave ovens, cars, documents, etc. I decided to write about it on my website. I was immediately inundated by hundreds of emails from all around the world. Individuals were telling me their own 11:11 stories, almost always saying “I thought it only happened to me.” It is difficult for me to decipher what this is all about, but my intuition tells me it’s positive.”
Unbeknown to me at the time, this was the beginning of my fascination with the planetary awakening. It was a wake up call of sorts, an initiation into the “aha” of realization that something BIG was going on, and I wanted to know what it was.

What had started out seeming to be a mere coincidence, evolved into something that proved to be a trigger, an activation of sorts. My consciousness began to awaken and take in the information that I had been oblivious to prior to my 11:11 experiences. And this is what frequently happens, when you begin seeing these numbers: something shifts within.

Once I began to “get it,” and realize that seeing these numbers were meaningful, I then began seeing other multiple numbers on a regular basis. I would go through a period where I was seeing multiples of 5 everywhere, daily. And then it might switch to multiples of 3, or 4, or 6, or 7, or 12, and so forth.
If you are one who has been seeing 11:11 for months or years (or decades??), then know that you have been receiving a download whenever this happens. Wonder why you have been evolving faster than the speed of light??

Do you look back at the person you were a year ago, two years ago, five … and think to yourself: “who the heck was that person?” You have evolved so much you barely recognize the old you anymore .  (I love this line!)

And so it goes. Not only are you as an individual evolving at warp speed, the entire planet is doing the same.

In recent years, many of you have experienced life-altering changes, however even if you did not, you probably felt the seismic energetic shifts that were occurring on the planet. You felt it on a visceral level, as the energy shifts were having a huge impact on us physically. And you felt it emotionally as well. Your perspective changed on many aspects of life, and this change was so thorough that you may not even realize it – you may have so fully let go of the old beliefs that you don’t remember having held them just a short time ago.
The process has been one of pushing all that no longer serves us to the surface, and then clearing it out to make way for that which is built on a solid foundation. This is true on the personal level, and on the planetary level. Look at your own life, and take a note of all that is happening around the globe.

This process will continue for many years. It has taken millennium for all of this darkness to be created, so we cannot expect it to move out overnight. However, as this deconstruction continues, the construction of the new will pick up speed and begin to grab our attention, giving us a heightened sense of hope, and an enlightened awareness of the potential for the creation of our new earth.
We are now coming to the tipping point in this process. In the past decade the focus has been on the deconstruction of all that no longer serves us. And while this will continue for many years, the construction of the new will begin to dominate in 2013.

These are exciting and fascinating times we are moving through. Know that you chose to be alive at this time, to experience this Shift. You are participating in it, and the more conscious you are of that, the more you will be able to effectively contribute to this process.

We are individually and collectively creating the New Earth. Doesn’t get more exciting than that.

AGE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MY KIDS IS DRIVING ME NUTS

My two young kids are at that "lovely" age when their age differences are huge and it's making me crazy, especially this summer and this week!  They are only 4 years apart but when you have a girl who is a "tween" and a boy who is only 7-years old, the gap can be huge.

My daughter is going into 7th grade this school year and her world revolves around her friends, her cell phone and having sleepovers.  No big surprise, my world did too, when I was in 7th grade (well, minus the cell phone, of course.  Hence, the new generation and their technology!)

My 7-year old on the other hand, is usually preoccupied with ice hockey, Power Rangers and WWE videos, but ever since his sister has had her "BFF" over everyday this week, it has been like World War III here!  He feels it's not fair that he doesn't get to have his friend over, or go to the beach with his friend or just hang out all day with his friend.

I mean, I understand his point but after-all, he is 7-years old.  Most of his friends, if not all, are at summer camp.  He is signed up for ice hockey camp but it does not start until next week!  I try to explain to him, that his sister, at age 7, was not allowed the same kind of freedom she is allowed now.  I try to tell him that next week, he will be with his friends at camp and then he can have play dates afterwards. It's just this week, is not a good week to arrange play dates for him because of scheduling issues with his friends parents.

I must admit, I am in no hurry to have them grow up.  I am having a hard time already grasping the fact that my little girl is in middle school!  And honestly, I love to see my son still running around pretending he is a Power Ranger or a professional hockey player in the NHL.  The role play is priceless. Those are the moments I can never get back.

Regardless of all my explanations and nostalgia, at the end of the day, he is seven and does not care or understand all my reasoning.  He just sees me as being "unfair" and having the "boringest time ever!"  I offer to take him ice-skating or to the movies, but he just wants a friend.  I get it, I am no substitute for a cool 7 or 8-year old (I try, but I am not cutting it!)

Of course, my daughter is thrilled that I have let her best-friend sleepover twice this week and that I am allowing her a free day out with her best-friend and the mom at the beach today.  She even wanted to hug her little brother goodbye and tell him she loved him as she left the house this morning.  Really? I appreciate the love but you know that this was just more salt to the wound, right?

I know someday this four-year gap will not be a big deal but NOW, today, it is!

SELF-LOVE DRILL

I absolutely love this self-love drill that Tyrese Gibson does with his daughter at home!  It is so inspiring and it is such a great example of how we should teach our kids, especially, our daughters!

"No one in the world can stop my greatness!"  What a confidence-building statement.  Watch this video and get inspired!

Zucchini Ribbon Pasta

In an effort to try to start eating healthy and provide my family with a dinner that looks delish, I am going to attempt to make this recipe I found online!

Zucchini Ribbon Pasta

Eating less meat has been proven to reduce the risk of disease, curb obesity and has important environmental impacts, too. Will you join us in giving up meat, just for one day a week?

It’s that time of year when zucchini is everywhere, whether you’re growing it, getting a pile from the CSA or accidentally purchasing a crateful from the farmers’ market (we get it — they looked that good). But now you’re left wondering, what am I supposed to do with this stuff? The answer: Make this zucchini ribbon fettuccine. Ellie Krieger laces green and yellow squash ribbons throughout  whole wheat pasta before topping the whole dish with grated Parmesan and fresh herbs. Red pepper lends just enough kick to keep things interesting — and ensures that you’ll be making this bright dish again soon. Give your tomato sauce a break and enjoy the season’s bounty (or rather, find a reason to feel less guilty about all that green).

Zucchini Ribbon Pasta

3/4 pound whole-wheat fettuccine
2 medium green zucchini (about 1 pound)
2 medium yellow zucchini (about 1 pound)
3 tablespoons olive oil
4 cloves garlic, chopped
1 cup low-sodium chicken broth
1/4 cup grated (1-ounce) Parmesan (lightly packed), plus 2 tablespoons
1/3 cup finely minced parsley leaves, plus more for garnish
1 cup thinly sliced basil leaves, plus more for garnish
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
Salt

DIRECTIONS

In a large pasta pot, cook pasta “al dente”, 1 or 2 minutes less than the package instructions call for.

Drain.

Meanwhile, slice off ends of zucchini and discard. Cut zucchini in half lengthwise. Using a mandoline, or carefully with a sharp knife, slice zucchini into very thin (about 1/8-inch) slices, trying to keep some skin on each piece for color. Stack slices and cut in half lengthwise. Reserve zucchini ribbons in a large bowl.

In the pasta pot, heat the olive oil over low-medium heat. Add garlic and cook until soft and translucent but not browned, about 1 minute. Add zucchini ribbons and 1/4 cup chicken broth, raise heat to medium-high and cook until zucchini is still somewhat firm but just cooked, about 3 minutes. Return pasta to pot and add remaining chicken stock; cook for 2 to 3 minutes, until liquid has mostly absorbed into the pasta. Add 1/4 cup of the Parmesan, parsley, basil, red pepper flakes, black pepper and toss to combine. Season with salt, to taste. Serve garnished with additional parsley, basil and the remaining 2 tablespoons of cheese.

LETTING MY TWEEN DAUGHTER SHAVE HER LEGS

Is your tween begging you to shave? Not ready to let her grow up just yet?  Well, I feel your pain.  My 11-year-old daughter wants to shave her legs. If you would have told me I'd be letting my 11-year old shave a few years ago, I would have said, "No way, she is too young!" but when you look at her legs, you can totally see that she has a lot hair, and it is very noticeable. My baby girl is growing up and has the hairy genes of her father!

I believe the old wives tale that the hair will grow back darker, stronger etc, but I know she feels embarrassed so I know the right thing to do is let her shave, especially now that she is starting 7th grade. Middle-school can be a nightmare!

I have been allowing her to use Nair for a while now but it is such a pain to use and oh so stinky! It was convenient when we first started on this adventure of pre-puberty at around age 10.  Nair was the best solution for a child so young but with very hairy legs.  I would let her do it every once in a while, when the hair was too out of control. Then she would see how much of a pain it was to apply the cream all over her legs and just how smelly it was, and months would go by, without doing it.

But NOW....now we are in "new territory!"  Summer, plus starting 7th grade and the hair on her legs are more visible than ever!

My debate now is, do I let her use a regular razor an electric shaver?  I had considered buying her an electric shaver rather than a blade razor but upon further research I decided differently.

I researched the pros and cons on Electric Shavers as well as Razors with Blades and this is what I found:

Electric (or dry) shaving

How it works:

An electric razor has a fine screen that glides across the skin’s surface, trapping the hair and cutting it off with a moving blade underneath.

Suggested for: Legs, arms, underarms, bikini area

Advantages:

  • Simple and efficient
  • Easy enough to do every day
  • Can be done just about anywhere since no water or shaving cream is needed

Drawbacks:

  • Won’t give you the close shave that a razor in the shower would; results may not last as long as you’d like
  • Electric razors are expensive
  • Keeping up with tangled cords and battery charges might slow you down
  • If your hair is coarse—particularly in the bikini area—electric shaving can cause ingrown hairs
Upon reading the drawbacks of the electric shaver, I re-considered the regular good-old fashioned razor blade:

How it works:

A set of razor blades glides over wet skin and lathered shave gel to remove unwanted hair.
Venus razor blades are spaced close together and spring-mounted to individually adjust to a woman’s natural contours. This way, each razor blade stays in contact with the skin for a curve-hugging, close shave. The Venus Embrace Refillable razor uses 5 blades surrounded by a Ribbon of Moisture for extra glide.

Suggested for: Legs, arms, underarms, and bikini area

Advantages:

  • Quick, effective, and safe to do daily
  • Painless
  • Inexpensive
  • Will even exfoliate skin while removing hair

Drawbacks:

  • To maintain your softest skin, you have to shave frequently.
  • If your hair is coarse—particularly in the bikini area—shaving can cause ingrown hairs. To minimize the risk, exfoliate the area, shave in the direction of the hair growth, and apply a moisturizer after shaving.

TIPS:

First and foremost, let her know that sharing a razor is not recommended (it’s just not hygienic), and help her choose a razor just for her.

You’ll also want to tell her to change the blade at the first sign of discomfort to prevent nicks and cuts. Razor performance will vary depending on how thick the hair is and how big the areas being shaved are, but many girls change their blades after 5 to 10 shaves.

Another important tip is to always use a shave gel, which will help the razor glide smoothly over skin. Not only does this make shaving comfortable, it also helps prevent nicks and cuts.

A great shaving tip for girls: Choose a women’s razor. For example, some Venus razors have rounded, pivoting heads, a Ribbon of Moisture and a curvy handle with SoftGrip gel. They make it easy to shave ankles, behind the knees and underarms.

 How To Start:

Soak the skin in warm water, lather up with a shave gel, and shave with a light touch, against the growth of the hair. Suggest she use a body lotion after shaving, to keep skin moisturized.

MY CONCLUSION:

I think for NOW, I will allow her to use a razor blade with shaving cream for a nice, clean cut shave. I will of course, be supervising and buy her one of the best razors available.  I figured, we shouldn't skip any steps.

We started with Nair.  And now, I will have her start shaving with a razor blade and if she finds it uncomfortable or too difficult, I will expose her to an electric shaver.

NOTE:  Choose the brand that works for YOU and your daughter.  This article in no way endorses a specific brand. Good luck to you and your tween as you venture into the world of puberty!

AMAZING MINI VAN

Hey Mommy Warriors!  How awesome would it be to load up your family in this kind of mini-van?!

SOCIALIZING ON THE INTERNET CAN BE BAD FOR KIDS

As I scrolled through my "tweens" cell phone this morning ( yeah, I do that!) I was thinking about what a whole new world we live in with technology.  How as parents we lose some sort of control while our children have all this technology (cell phones, iPads, and more.)  I know I cannot be with my kids, 24-7, especially my tween, but what I have learned, is that I must continue to teach and talk about the dangers that are out there, especially in the internet world.  Kids are vulnerable. They are easily enticed by promises of becoming"famous," by joining a modeling group or entering contests to win something or sending a video of themselves on Best Vines etc...

Recently, my daughter wanted to send a funny video of herself to enter some contest on Vine and I had to explain to her (adamantly) how that can be so dangerous.  I know at this age, she and her friends do not understand my paranoia as a parent, but I did have to explain to her how there are many sick people in the world who can pose as one thing and actually be stalking innocent children, especially girls.

For the most part, I know that almost all the kids/tweens are on Vine or some other social media outlet as a way of "socializing," but I still prefer, the "old-school" way of talking to your friend, or hanging outside and doing stuff, of playing ball, of skating, biking, going to the mall etc...

This is why, the rule in our home is, when my daughter's tween friends, show up at the house, all cell phones must be put down in my kitchen and the parents of the child know that they can call our house or reach them via MY phone.

I believe what Dr. Meg Meeker states, that socializing on the internet can be bad for children.

In my opinion, as parents, we must try to maintain as much control as possible while they are still young in order to teach them right from wrong, so when the time comes for them to be out there alone, making their own decisions, they are wise enough to choose the right thing!

23 Life Changing Lessons

23 Life Changing Lessons - These messages/quotes of happiness, love, spirituality and wholeness not once relating to one`s religious beliefs, race or background.

Today, I would like to share these 23 Life Changing Lessons to Learn that empower the whole world! Enjoy!

1. The world doesn’t belong to leaders. The world belongs to the whole humanity.

“World belongs to humanity, not this leader, that leader or that king or prince or religious leader. World belongs to humanity. “

“I always believe the rule by king or official leader is outdated. Now we must catch up with the modern world.”

2. Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions.

“I don’t know whether the universe, with its countless galaxies, stars and planets, has a deeper meaning or not, but at the very least, it is clear that we humans who live on this earth face the task of making a happy life for ourselves. Therefore, it is important to discover what will bring about the greatest degree of happiness.”

“I believe compassion to be one of the few things we can practice that will bring immediate and long-term happiness to our lives. I’m not talking about the short-term gratification of pleasures like sex, drugs or gambling (though I’m not knocking them), but something that will bring true and lasting happiness. The kind that sticks.”

3. The essence of any religion is good heart.

“We can reject everything else: religion, ideology, all received wisdom. But we cannot escape the necessity of love and compassion…. This, then, is my true religion, my simple faith. In this sense, there is no need for temple or church, for mosque or synagogue, no need for complicated philosophy, doctrine or dogma. Our own heart, our own mind, is the temple. The doctrine is compassion. Love for others and respect for their rights and dignity, no matter who or what they are: ultimately these are all we need. So long as we practice these in our daily lives, then no matter if we are learned or unlearned, whether we believe in Buddha or God, or follow some other religion or none at all, as long as we have compassion for others and conduct ourselves with restraint out of a sense of responsibility, there is no doubt we will be happy.”

“Love and Compassion are the true religions to me. But to develop this, we do not need to believe in any religion.”

“Compassion is not religious business, it is human business, it is not luxury, it is essential for our own peace and mental stability, it is essential for human survival.”

“The essence of any religion is good heart. Sometimes I call love and compassion a universal religion. This is my religion.”

4. If you realize that you have enough, you are truly rich.

“When you are discontent, you always want more, more, more. Your desire can never be satisfied. But when you practice contentment, you can say to yourself, ‘Oh yes – I already have everything that I really need.”

“We need to learn how to want what we have NOT to have what we want in order to get steady and stable Happiness”

5. Your Home is where you feel at home.

“Home is where you feel at home and are treated well.”

6. In the middle of every difficulty lies an opportunity for growth.

“When we meet real tragedy in life, we can react in two ways – either by losing hope and falling into self-destructive habits, or by using the challenge to find our inner strength. Thanks to the teachings of Buddha, I have been able to take this second way. “

“Hard times build determination and inner strength. Through them we can also come to appreciate the uselessness of anger. Instead of getting angry nurture a deep caring and respect for troublemakers because by creating such trying circumstances they provide us with invaluable opportunities to practice tolerance and patience.”

7. Life is too short to be anything but happy.

“Given the scale of life in the cosmos, one human life is no more than a tiny blip. Each one of us is a just visitor to this planet, a guest, who will only stay for a limited time. What greater folly could there be than to spend this short time alone, unhappy or in conflict with our companions? Far better, surely, to use our short time here in living a meaningful life, enriched by our sense of connection with others and being of service to them.”

“With realization of one’s own potential and self-confidence in one’s ability, one can build a better world.”

8. It’s okay if you get angry from time to time.

“As a human being, anger is a part of our mind. Irritation also part of our mind. But you can do – anger come, go. Never keep in your sort of – your inner world, then create a lot of suspicion, a lot of distrust, a lot of negative things, more worry.”

“Generally speaking, if a human being never shows anger, then I think something’s wrong. He’s not right in the brain.”

“I am sometimes sad when I hear the personal stories of Tibetan refugees who have been tortured or beaten. Some irritation, some anger comes. But it never lasts long. I always try to think at a deeper level, to find ways to console.”

9. You must not lose faith in humanity.

“Out of 6 billion humans, the troublemakers are just a handful.”

“Some mischievous people always there. Last several thousand years, always there. In future, also.”

10. Love everyone, be attached to no one.

“Old friends pass away, new friends appear. It is just like the days. An old day passes, a new day arrives. The important thing is to make it meaningful: a meaningful friend – or a meaningful day.”

“Give the ones you love wings to fly, roots to come back and reasons to stay.”

11. It’s not just your brain who needs to be developed, your warm-heartedness needs as well.

“I have always had this view about the modern education system: we pay attention to brain development, but the development of warmheartedness we take for granted.”

“If you have only education and knowledge and a lack of the other side, then you may not be a happy person, but a person of mental unrest, of frustration. Not only that, but if you combine these two, your whole life will be a constructive and happy life. And certainly you can make immense benefit for society and the betterment of humanity. That is one of my fundamental beliefs: that a good heart, a warm heart, a compassionate heart, is still teachable.”

“One problem with our current society is that we have an attitude towards education as if it is there to simply make you more clever, make you more ingenious… Even though our society does not emphasize this, the most important use of knowledge and education is to help us understand the importance of engaging in more wholesome actions and bringing about discipline within our minds. The proper utilization of our intelligence and knowledge is to effect changes from within to develop a good heart.”

12. A calm mind brings inner strength and self-confidence.

“Calm mind brings inner strength and self-confidence, so that’s very important for good health.”

Underneath it all we are all good, but not everyone lives life from that place.

“Of course, when I say that human nature is gentleness, it is not 100 percent so. Every human being has that nature, but there are many people acting against their nature, being false.”

13. The best way to resolve any problem is to sit down and talk.

“Non-violence means dialogue, using our language, the human language. Dialogue means compromise; respecting each other’s rights; in the spirit of reconciliation there is a real solution to conflict and disagreement. There is no hundred percent winner, no hundred percent loser—not that way but half-and-half. That is the practical way, the only way.”

“The best way to resolve any problem in the human world is for all sides to sit down and talk.”

14. Ignorance is anything but bliss.

“Where ignorance is our master, there is no possibility of real peace.”

“I believe all suffering is caused by ignorance. People inflict pain on others in the selfish pursuit of their happiness or satisfaction. Yet true happiness comes from a sense of inner peace and contentment, which in turn must be achieved through the cultivation of altruism, of love and compassion and elimination of ignorance, selfishness and greed.”

“We should reflect on the idea that since the beginning of time sentient beings have been mentally unstable because they have been slaves of delusion, they lack the eye of wisdom to see the path leading to nirvana and enlightenment, and they lack the necessary guidance of a spiritual teacher. Moment by moment they are indulging in negative actions, which will eventually bring about their downfall.”

15. You must not hate those who do wrong or harmful things.

“You must not hate those who do wrong or harmful things; but with compassion, you must do what you can to stop them — for they are harming themselves, as well as those who suffer from their actions.”

16. We are all different yet we are all the same.

“Whether one is rich or poor, educated or illiterate, religious or non-believing, man or woman, black, white, or brown, we are all the same. Physically, emotionally, and mentally, we are all equal. We all share basic needs for food, shelter, safety, and love. We all aspire to happiness and we all shun suffering. Each of us has hopes, worries, fears, and dreams. Each of us wants the best for our family and loved ones. We all experience pain when we suffer loss and joy when we achieve what we seek. On this fundamental level, religion, ethnicity, culture, and language make no difference.”

“Every single being, even those who are hostile to us, is just as afraid of suffering as we are, and seeks happiness in the same way we do. Every person has the same right as we do to be happy and not to suffer. So let’s take care of others wholeheartedly, of both our friends and our enemies. This is the basis for true compassion.”

“We discover that all human beings are just like us, so we are able to relate to them more easily. That generates a spirit of friendship in which there is less need to hide what we feel or what we are doing.”

17. You can create a dynamic impression not just by using words, but also by knowing when to be silent.

“Sometimes one creates a dynamic impression by saying something, and sometimes one creates as significant an impression by remaining silent.”

18. Knowledge never decreases by being shared.

“Share your knowledge. It is a way to achieve immortality.”

19. If you contribute to other people’s happiness, you will find the true meaning of life.

“We are but visitors on this planet. We are here for ninety or one hundred years at the very most. During that period, we must try to do something good, something useful with our lives. If you contribute to other people’s happiness, you will find the true goal, the true meaning of life.”

“The ultimate source of happiness is not money and power, but warm-heartedness”

20. Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional.

“Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional… we have bigger houses, but smaller families. More conveniences, but less time. We have knowledge, but less judgements; more experts, but more problems ; more medicines but less health.”

21. Urge people to investigate things, don’t command them to believe.

“Open-minded people tend to be interested in Buddhism because Buddha urged people to investigate things – he didn’t just command them to believe.”

“I will not propose to you that my way is best. The decision is up to you. If you find some point which may be suitable to you, then you can carry out experiments for yourself. If you find that it is of no use, then you can discard it.”

22. Your task is not to be better than anyone else. Your task is to be better than you used to be.

“The goal is not to be better than the other man, but your previous self.”

23. If we do not combine science and these basic human values, then scientific knowledge may sometimes create troubles, even disaster…

“It seems that scientific research reaches deeper and deeper. But it also seems that more and more people, at least scientists, are beginning to realize that the spiritual factor is important. I say ‘spiritual’ without meaning any particular religion or faith, just simple warmhearted compassion, human affection, and gentleness. It is as if such warmhearted people are a bit more humble, a little bit more content. I consider spiritual values primary, and religion secondary. As I see it, the various religions strengthen these basic human qualities. As a practitioner of Buddhism, my practice of compassion and my practice of Buddhism are actually one and the same. But the practice of compassion does not require religious devotion or religious faith; it can be independent from the practice of religion. Therefore, the ultimate source of happiness for human society very much depends on the human spirit, on spiritual values. If we do not combine science and these basic human values, then scientific knowledge may sometimes create troubles, even disaster….”
