FEEL BETTER WITH ANCIENT DRINK TURMERIC GOLDEN MILK

It has a warm, bitter taste and is frequently used to flavor or color curry powders, mustards, butters, and cheeses. It is known as TURMERIC and the root of turmeric is also used widely to make medicine. It contains a yellow-colored chemical called curcumin, which is often used to color foods and cosmetics.

Turmeric is an amazing anti-flammatory. It helps alleviate joint paint, muscle pain and can even help with colds and help prevent cancer.  There are many health benefits that are worth reading about.

You can purchase high-quality Turmeric Powder at your local health food store. It is one of my favorite all-time, remedies for many different ailments. It can be used as an anti-inflammatory for people suffering from arthritis, joint pain, and muscle pain.   Personally, I used it to help myself with a case of pleurisy, Pleurisy is swelling (inflammation) of the thin layers of tissue (pleura) covering the lungs and the chest wall. The outer layer of the pleura lines the inside of the chest wall, and the inner layer covers the lungs. ... When the pleura becomes inflamed, the layers rub together, causing chest pain. I had that pain and it lasted almost 2 months. When nothing else seemed to work, I turned to this paste and much to my surprise and delight, in 3-4 days I was feeling better. (Note: all results are different and this is not medical advise. Always check with your healthcare provider if you have a serious medical condition.)  Turmeric paste may also help aid in digestion, and works as an anti-parasitic, and anti-bacterial.

Here are the steps to start your Golden Milk Recipe:

INGREDIENTS:  (to make the paste)
How to make Golden Paste:
½ cup turmeric powder
1 cup spring water (+ ½ extra if necessary)
1.5 tsp ground black pepper*

(Why add Black Pepper? It is beneficial to take black pepper with turmeric because it helps the body absorb turmeric.A 1992 report in Clinical Pharmacokinetics on black pepper explained why some studies did not show the same benefits of turmeric as the others did. The human body has a tough time utilizing curcumin effectively.  However just a small amount of black pepper boosted bio-availability of curcumin by up to 2000%, the study shows.)

Cook this paste for 7-9 minutes.

The Golden Paste is a turmeric-based paste that taken orally provides health benefits to humans as well as animals (dogs and horses). Turmeric, known for is anti-inflammatory properties and used medicinally for over 4,000 years, is excellent for arthritis, skin health, digestion, immune system, and even cancer. Recent studies have confirmed that it may be as effective as 14 different prescription drugs – without the adverse side effects.

After you have the actual Turmeric paste, you can turn it into a tea or "Golden Milk." (Personally, I used Almond Milk for flavor.)

How to Make Golden Milk:
-1 teaspoon of organic coconut oil
-1/4 teaspoon of turmeric paste
-1 cup of almond milk (or coconut milk)

-1/4 teaspoon Black pepper
-Organic, raw, unfiltered honey for taste (optional)

(Note: If you decide to use Coconut Milk, you can skip the coconut oil. Also, you can also add Ginger if you prefer)

Directions:
Mix all the ingredients together over medium heat except the honey. Do not allow it to boil. Add a bit of honey for taste (after) if you would like to sweeten it up and drink as soon as it is cool enough.

See video for instructions:

A 2010 peer-reviewed a research article published in The International Journal of Biochemistry & Cell Biology concluded that “the various effects of curcumin has been widely studied in Western systems of medicine for decades, and has been found to possess antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. Considering that inflammation plays a major role in most chronic illnesses, anti-inflammatory agents are needed for prevention purposes. Because curcumin inhibits multiple pro-inflammatory pathways and is affordable, this phyto-chemical should be further explored for prevention and treatment of various chronic diseases.”

Turmeric and Arthritis: In traditional Chinese and Indian Ayurveda medicine, turmeric is used to treat arthritis. A 2006 study found the turmeric helps reduce join inflammation. A different study from the same year found turmeric to have anti-arthritic effect. And a 2012 study provided evidence that curcumin might even be more effective for rheumatoid arthritis than anti-inflammatory drugs.

Turmeric for Digestive Issues: Curcumin stimulates the gallbladder to produce more bile, which may aid digestion. The German Commission E, a scientific advisory board equivalent to the FDA, approved turmeric for digestive problems.

A 2006 double-blind, placebo-controlled trial found curcumin helpful for keeping ulcerative colitis in remission. And a 2013 paper concluded that curcumin is “a very promising new therapeutic option for the treatment of gastrointestinal and hepatic diseases for which present therapies are largely unsatisfactory.”

Turmeric as First Aid: Turmeric can be used to treat wounds, cuts, rashes, bruises, insect bites, and swelling. A 2014 article from Life Sciences concluded that topical application of curcumin has a great therapeutic effect on skin wounds. Also, a 2006 study concluded that it accelerated wound healing.

REFER.ME AND EARN REWARDS

If you' re like me and like to shop, you might also like to get rewards for doing so.  My favorite credit cards to use are the ones that I can get points and rewards on. I love to watch my rewards add up so I can get free or discounted stuff.  Whether it is by accumulating rewards on my credit cards or using websites that offer referrals, it is a fun and easy way to earn rewards. So anytime, I hear of something new that offers something similar, I am all ears!

Last week, someone told me about a new mobile app called Refer.Me. This app is a Social Referral Network that actually helps people earn rewards for referring others to products and services they already have and use. So lets say that you use Ebates and they offer a referral program that when you refer someone to them through a link they will give a reward to the other person and also to you. The way the Refer.Me app works is very simple. You download the app and then create  a profile where you can upload their referral codes or links from companies like Uber, Lyft, Chase, Discover, American Express, Ebates, Amazon, etc and then people look for the discounts or offers that these companies offer for being referred. One of my favorites to use it with is Uber.

Check out this video on how it works:

You can even personalize your experience by creating your own profile on the Refer.Me app. It lets you create your own board where you have easy access to all the postings you have uploaded. You can edit, publish, un-publish and much more.

Refer.Me is available for iOS and Android.  Download it today and start getting your referral codes. We all have and use tons of products and services and we always talk to our friends and family about them, but we rarely get rewarded for doing so, because we don't know about existing referral programs or because it's complicated. Refer.Me is so easy to use and it is FREE!

It's a WIN-WIN situation because the company is happy and you get rewards!

PITBULL CONCERT OR BASEBALL GAME?

Pitbull Concert vs. Miami Marlins Baseball Game.

Recently, I was faced with a decision that put my motherhood instincts to the test πŸ˜‚  I was faced with two options:  Going with my 10-year old son, to a Miami Marlins baseball game, where I had to buy tickets, buy food, drive 1 hour OR go see the Pitbull & Enrique Iglesias concert in Miami that I was invited to for free and would be driven to! 😁

As soon as I received the phone call with the invite, my inner self, said "yes!" I visualized myself there at the concert listening to Mr. Worldwide and Latin heartthrob, Enrique Iglesias. I got so excited! Then, I remembered that my son had been talking about this game vs. the Chicago Cubs for days! He was so looking forward to going to the baseball game with me. I contemplated how I could make everyone happy in this scenario. I even gave him the option of going with his father and he said, "No," that he really wanted me to take him.  He said it would be a "bonding experience for us."  I know, I know. I am such a sucker for his manipulation!

Although for a few moments, I really did consider going to the concert, the look of disappoint on my son's face when he thought I was actually going to ditch him for the concert convinced me of what I knew I had to do.

Truth is, I spent ten years in the music business and had my fill of concerts but, oh, for those few minutes, how I flashed back to my days of partying and going to concerts! I just wanted to throw my "mommy hat" out the window, put on my infamous little red dress and go party!

My teenage daughter went to the concert with her friend and the parents, who invited her and had a great time and said the concert was amazing! 🎼🎀 πŸ™πŸ»

We finally went to the game. We drove one hour plus to get there; we had the ice cream, the hotdog, the nachos, the popcorn and the soft drinks! And we when I say "we," you know I mainly mean me!  LOL! The Marlins beat the Cubs that night and we got to see Giancarlo Stanton hit a homerun! I let my son walk around the area we were seated at, with his glove in hand to catch fly balls that go into the stands. I walked with him to the bullpen before the game to see the players and when it was all said and done, he thanked me for taking him to the game and apologized to me that I missed the concert.  At that very moment, I knew in my heart I had made the right choice and assured him that I much rather spend time with him than go to one more concert in my life!

Reality is, I would have never fit into that "little red dress" again and that's okay and two hours at a concert would not exactly be a lifelong memory for my kid. I think as moms, as parents, we reach a point where sometimes seeing our children smile and having them make a lasting memory is more valuable than anything else. At least it is in my case.

Hopefully, years from now my little man will remember the "baseball date" he and I had!

The special moments we share with our kids are the memories that will last a lifetime, long after we (the parents) are gone.

BOOK REVIEW - THE BIRTHDAY PARTY

The Birthday Party by Ronald and Juanita Destra and is a fun book for young readers. The story is easy to read and has plenty of colorful illustrations as well. It is the story of a boy who turns 12 years old and finds himself having an odd day.  As he wakes up and tries to be independent, he makes his own food in the morning and rides his bike to school alone. He stops at his friend, Johnny's house but he is not there, so he continues riding to school. He is excited about the fact that he turned twelve and he gets to see his friends in school. However, much to his disappointment, everyone seems to be acting weird. No one says anything to him or even knows it's his birthday.

As he attends each of his classes, he just wants the day to be over so he can get home to his family.  When he finally arrives at his house that afternoon, his parents are not around, only a note from them. He can't believe it. His parents aren't home, no presents and a totally uneventful day.  He then decides to do his homework, watch a little TV and then shower.  After a while, he finally goes downstairs and his parents are home.

INSPIRATION FOR MOMS TO GET FIT

As a new mom, I remember how hard it was to lose that extra baby weight that I gained during pregnancy. "Breastfeed!  It will make you lose weight," they said!  Yea, not so much! Some people are lucky, I was not.  First of all, I was not able to breastfeed and secondly, getting the weight off was not an easy task for me. I was home all the time, stressed, as a first-time mom and I just kept eating. The reality is that sometimes, even after breast-feeding and even years after having children, for some people the extra weight is still there. Not very comforting, I know. For some of us, it is no easy task to lose the excess weight. And not everyone is a gym-
going enthusiast. Sometimes, just having children and the hectic pace of life, is enough to contribute to slacking off when it comes to our weight and health & fitness. The good news is, it doesn’t always have to be like this.

I know from personal experience that sometimes it is easier to have that slice of pepperoni pizza or drink a soda, or eat your kids leftovers. Sometimes, you do not want to go for a walk or not go to the gym, because you are just too tired or busy, but remember, you cannot give in!  If you want to lose weight and get back to being “fit” again, you have to set a goal for yourself and stick to it. You might be tempted to slack off, but if you stick to your goal, later on you will not regret it.

Sometimes, you just need someone or something to boost you into getting motivated.  Personally, I found “my something” that helped me start losing weight and definitely got my
energy level up. Once you get that little bit of motivation, it is just a matter of habit and discipline to stick to your new routine and ultimate goal, but you have to really want it. You have to be ready!

If you have a baby or young toddler, you can even go jogging or a brisk walk with your child and start getting in shape!

Remember, you did not gain all that extra weight in a week, so don't expect it to come off in a week as well!  The key is to not give up.

True, when you have little ones to take care of at home it becomes harder to go to the gym or to stick to an exercise routine, but you can start with the little things. For example, make a conscious effort to not drink soda anymore, and stay away from sweets. Do not eat junk food just because you are hungry. Choose healthy snacks instead of junk.

Stay focused and keep reminding yourself that you want to look and feel better, except now the difference is, it is not just a thought in your head, now you are making a real effort to make a change!  When you feel the urge to have a soda, take a deep breath and say, "no!" Reach for a glass of water instead, maybe with a few lemon wedges for flavor. And instead of a slice of pepperoni pizza, grab a healthy snack, like an apple with almond butter or string cheese.

Focus on making healthier choices when it comes to your meals and snacks.Every little bit helps when it comes to making a change in your eating habits. I’ve learned that half the
battle is mental.  By that I mean, once you make a mental note and a commitment to YOURSELF that you genuinely want to change to a healthier you, you can make it happen.

There is no one that can stop you, so don’t give up!

Use this time you have with your baby or small children to go for a walk, while you put them in their stroller or have them ride their bike or roller blades, if they are old enough. You don’t have to go for a mile run, but start with a small walk around the block. It can be very beneficial for your health and can help to get your endorphin's going.

Remember, you are not alone in this journey. You are now on your way to A Fit Place! You are not going to go on a diet, you are going to focus on living a healthier lifestyle. YOU CAN DO IT!

5 SUPER FUN GARDENING ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN

Gardening is fun, rewarding and it creates a sense of accomplishment in the children. The children will feel accomplished when the plants grow to maturity under their care. Furthermore, being involved in gardening activities enables the children to learn about nature, recycling and also it instills a sense of responsibility in them. So instead of just swimming and lazing around in summer and spring, encourage your little ones to take up gardening and see their hard work pay off. This article will highlight five super fun gardening activities for children.

Have a Potato Farm

You can encourage the children to plant potatoes in their small garden at the backyard or even in containers. A good salad or a meal is not complete without fresh baby potatoes. And am very sure your kids love chips, right? Well, you can have homemade chips for everyone! Potatoes are easy to grow and don't need lots of care and attention. All you need is a vegetable patch or even a large container. You can even recycle that baby bath or sink that you are not using anymore. Before planting the potatoes, make sure you go fairly deep and also have drainage holes in the bottom if you are using containers, to get rid of excess water that can rot the plants.

Create Herb Garden

Growing herbs is fun and easy. It requires low maintenance and a little patience as herbs grow fairly fast and are the most versatile plants. Some herbs like cress and rocket start to sprout in as little as two days! I am sure your children will be thrilled by this. They will love harvesting the herbs and bring them to the kitchen to be included in their meals. Please note that herbs need plenty of sunlight and good quality soil. So make sure you choose a sunny spot and quality soil for your project. One of the herbs, mints, is a favorite of many. This is because it grows very fast, spreads evenly and it tastes yummy and smells good. You can add it in drinks or even use its cuttings as air fresheners in bedrooms and bathrooms. You can even plant herbs indoors, but facing the windows.

Plant Green Vegetable Garden

Greens are the easiest crops to plant as they can grow both indoors and outdoors. All you need to get started is a sunny spot, seeds, pots, and soil. In order to enrich the soil, you can use organic materials like compost, shredded leaves, and even animal manure. You can grow greens such as lettuce, kale, mustard and even spinach, which are great for salad. Growing greens not only provides fresh, nutritious vegetables, but also can be an educative venture as the children learn more about the different types of vegetables and their nutritional value. The upside of this is that your children will get to eat vegetables well without a fight, as they had grown them.

Build a Maze

Children love to play in a maze as it brings a sense of mystery and is also fun. You can capitalize on this by helping them build a maze using sunflower plant. Sunflower is beautiful and is tall enough for this fun activity, but you can also use corn plant or wildflower. Sunflowers have cheerful blooms and they come in different sizes. They also come in a varied range of colors like white, yellow, orange and even red. You can engage your children in designing the maze, selecting the maze location and in planting the sunflower. The plant needs plenty of sunlight to thrive, so make sure you select a sunny spot with well-drained soil. Sunflower seeds are a birds' favorite and its kernels are used to make oil.

Create a Worm Farm

Most children love to play with worms and getting their hands dirty; therefore, they will be thrilled to have their own worm farm. Worms create tunnels through the earth and this helps the plants to get access to water and nutrients. Furthermore, these slimy creatures convert wastes into compost, hence enriching the soil. Therefore, having them around is not a bad idea at all. Having a worm farm will create an avenue for the children to learn more about them and also can help convert your kitchen waste into compost manure for your vegetable garden.

In conclusion, these are just but few gardening activities for children. Ignite that idea in them, let them learn to grow their own food and have fun while on it.

PLAYGROUND SAFETY CHECK LIST

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, emergency departments in the U.S. treat more than 200,000 children ages 14 and younger for playground-related injuries each year. Most of these accidents are linked to the parents' lack of education on playground hazards.

A PARENT'S GUIDE TO SMART PHONES

Although smartphones can be good to have in an emergency or to keep in touch with friends and family, they also present numerous risks if children aren’t careful. Parents must make sure children
use smartphones responsibly and safely, because irresponsible use can lead to issues far worse than a hefty phone bill.

Below is a Parent's Guide to Smartphones and a few things parents must keep in mind when considering whether to allow their kids to have smartphones.

A Parent’s Guide To SMARTPHONES

1. Is Your Child Ready For A Smartphone? The proper age is determined by your child’s maturity level and sense of responsibility. Your child may be ready for a smartphone if he or she:
    • Understands the cost of using a smartphone and is willing to limit use within the boundaries you set
    • Is willing and able to take proper care of the phone without breaking or losing it, including accepting the consequences of these
    •  Knows to always answer when you call or text
    •  Will talk to you openly about the apps he or she is using
    • Can use proper etiquette while talking to others on the phone
    • Won’t use the phone at inappropriate times (i.e., family time, meal time, homework time, etc.) There is no single “correct” age for children to begin using smartphones.
2.What Are The Risks that Come Along with Internet Access? These risks to children include:
    • Cyber-bullying from peers
    • Child predators knowing their location through GPS or social media
    • Viruses and malware if children accept content from unverified sources
    • Inappropriate content such as violent videos or mature material
Once your child has a smartphone, he or she can be exposed to a lot of risks...

3. How Can I Make My Child’s Smartphone Safer?
    • Requiring a password so only parents and their children can access the phone
    • Setting parental control restrictions to prohibit/restrict in-app purchases, set privacy controls and limit app usage
    • Installing special apps to remove ability to text while driving, view and control children’s contact lists, locate and track devices, set times when devices can’t be used, and/or receive reports about web browsing habits
    • Contacting service providers about setting limits on data, text and voice usage

Despite these risks, there are steps you can take to make it safer for your children to use a smartphone, such as:

    4. How Do I Set Rules And Monitor My Child’s Smartphone Behavior? It is important to set the ground rules right away and keep tabs on your child’s behavior online by:
      • Meeting with your child before activating his or her phone
      • Understanding your child’s school rules concerning smartphone usage during school hours
      • Downloading and using a security app to restrict phone usage
      • Checking your child’s smartphone regularly for new contacts and asking your child to verify them
      • Deleting contacts you determine to be unsuitable for your child
Being consistent about the rules and their enforcement. Ultimately, the buck stops with you when it comes to your child’s smartphone usage.

    5. How Do I Talk To My Child About Smartphone Usage? You have to bee sure to lay out all rules concerning smartphone usage right away and be consistent
      • Post the rules where they can be easily found, or ask your child to sign an agreement concerning phone usage
      • Remind your child that anything done or said online may be seen or shared by anyone
      • Advise your child to never accept friend requests from a stranger
      •  Discuss the effects of cyber-bullying and help your child understand how what he or she says online can impact others
      • Ask your child if he or she has any questions about the rules
As with everything, the most effective way to keep your child safe and responsible with smartphone usage is to be open and communicative with him or her.

    BASIC INVITE FOR BABY SHOWER

As a mom, I can honestly look back now and say, that being pregnant was one of the most rewarding and thrilling times of my life.  Everything that comes with being pregnant and preparing for baby's arrival is so exciting. Even when you are helping a friend prepare for their baby's arrival that is an awesome experience as well.  A big part of that fun is the baby shower!

Whether the baby shower is for you or a friend, finding the right invitation, and theme is also important.  Back when I was pregnant, it was not a common thing to have a "gender reveal party," but now-a-days, it has become all the rage. I love this idea! I was lucky enough that my daughter-in-law had a gender reveal party. I helped her look online for the invites and I can say that the ones we found on BasicInvite.com were absolutely adorable!

Preparing a baby shower party for your family member can be as intense, as if it was your own. You want everything to be just right. I went through a lot of the options but ultimately, the "mommy-to-be decided on which gender reveal baby shower invitation to choose that went with the theme.  It was perfect and the guests later commented on how cute the invitations were.

I liked using BasicInvite.com because they have a great baby shower product line and some especially unique designs. It was super easy to personalize ours and we had it match my son and his wife's (the expecting parents) nautical theme. We were able to change the colors to match our theme, then add our wording and change the font.

So, if you are planning your own baby shower, your friend's or a family member's and you are wondering where you can buy baby shower invitations, I highly recommend, BasicInvite.com
